What is Young Green Jackfruit?

Jackfruit comes from the evergreen jackfruit tree, a member of the mulberry family, which grows in tropical regions worldwide. The tree can grow up to 20 meters tall and, thanks to its deep roots, supplies itself with groundwater – entirely without artificial irrigation.

Special characteristics of jackfruit

  • The fruits can grow up to 1 meter long and weigh around 50 kg .

  • Depending on its ripeness, the pulp is used as a vegetable (when young) or as a dessert (when ripe).

  • The young green jackfruit , i.e. the young, unripe fruit, is often used as a plant-based meat substitute due to its tender fibers.

  • Both the pulp and the seeds are used in many cuisines.
